PassiveLogic Director of Brand Communications Travis Hallstrom and Staff Mechanical Engineer Alexa Kalandiak have been selected as finalists for the 2022 Women Tech Awards.

The Women Tech Awards is an annual event presented by Women Tech Council. Founded in 2007, Women Tech Council (WTC) has served as “a national organization focused on the economic impact of women in the technology sector through developing programs that propel the economic pipeline from K-12 to the C-suite.” The organization consists of over 10,000 men and women working together to promote inclusivity and highlight the talent and impact of women in the tech industry.

This year, 22 women were selected as finalists “for their innovative and groundbreaking work creating new technologies, leading companies and teams, building organizations, and inspiring our community.” Among the 22 finalists are PassiveLogic’s very own Travis Hallstrom and Alexa Kalandiak.

Travis Anna Hallstrom is a Co-founder and the Director of Brand Communications at PassiveLogic — creators of the first generalized platform for autonomy to optimize controlled systems. Travis has served on the board of the energy management program at Salt Lake Community College. Her passion for using technology to address the climate crisis has found her installing solar panels on 45° roofs, onstage pitching to impact investors, and debugging controls problems at an off-grid solar powered property in the remote desert of southern Utah. She shares her solutions-oriented passion with the next generation of technologists through her work with the FIRST robotics program and SheTech.

Earlier this year in March, Travis attended the 2022 WTC Talent Innovation Summit where she presented on the topic of “Recruiting and Retention Practices for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.”

Alexa Kalandiak joined PassiveLogic as a Junior Mechanical Engineer in 2018 where she has since grown into the position of Staff Mechanical Engineer. Prior to joining the startup, Alexa attended Yale University where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, she acquired a Certificate in Energy Studies and was a member of both the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society and Society of Women Engineers.

Alexa was also part of the Yale Undergraduate Rover Association (YURA) where she and her team designed and built a Mars rover for the annual University Rover Challenge (URC) in Hanksville, UT. Her experience in this competition highlights her early professional experience in mechanical engineering before joining PassiveLogic. Since then, Alexa’s work has been integral to leading the design and manufacturing of PassiveLogic’s hardware.
